  And the nerves disappeared.

Grinning broadly, he knocked. He actually still had a key, but in the rush of packing he’d forgotten to find it, and it was somewhere in his luggage.

The door opened, and Ben found himself face-to-face with Malik, whose eyes got very wide. Then a beautiful smile spread across his face. He glanced over his shoulder, then stepped out into the hall and pulled the door nearly all the way closed.

“I’d ask if he knew you were coming, but if he did he’d be in a better mood.” Malik looked him up and down, and then reached out and yanked him into a rough hug. “It’s good to see you. Is this just a visit, or—”

“I’m home.” The words tasted wonderful in his mouth.

Malik grinned again. “It’s good to have you home. Come on, I want to see his face.” He pushed the door open and ushered Ben in, grabbing his suitcase for him.

As he closed the door, Léo called something in French. It was a little fast for Ben’s still-learning ear, but the gist seemed to be “Who was at the door?”

Malik called back, something about a package—a delivery, maybe?—and gestured for Ben to precede him.

Ben walked into the living room just as Léo was headed toward the door, muttering about not ordering anything. They both froze. On the couch, Lucien gave a delighted cry and sprang to his feet.

Ben met Léo’s gaze and swallowed hard. He’d missed him so much. “Hey,” he said. Léo’s dark eyes skimmed over him.

  “You’re in Venice,” he said.

Ben shook his head. “I was. But I wanted to be here, so….” He spread his hands. “I’m here.”

Léo’s jaw tightened. “For how long?”

Suddenly, Ben realized how much he’d hurt Léo with his insistence that he needed to test their feelings for each other, with this enforced separation.

  I’m such a dick.

“Forever,” he said. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gone. But I’m back now, and I’m never leaving you again. I love you.”

In three long strides, Léo closed the space between them, snatching Ben into his arms and kissing him so hard Ben was sure his lips went numb.

  He didn’t care.

He was dimly aware of Malik and Lucien cheering in the background, but his focus was on the feel of Léo under his hands, his smell, his taste. Something inside him clicked into place. He hadn’t even noticed how stressed he’d been until this moment when, finally safe in Léo’s arms, everything in him relaxed.

When they finally pulled back for air, Léo was smiling, and Ben grinned delightedly in response.

“Champagne!” Lucien announced, shoving two glasses toward them. Ben turned and saw Malik pouring more of the pale gold liquid. Because of course Léo had had a bottle of his favorite—and now Ben’s favorite—champagne chilling. He took the glasses and handed one to Léo. Within moments, they all had a glass in hand.

“I would toast,” Malik said, “but I’d rather get on with the celebration.”

Ben laughed, his free hand clasped snugly in Léo’s.

“By all means,” Léo agreed, “drink your champagne and go so we can get on with the celebration.”

Heat flared in Ben’s cheeks as Malik and Lucien hooted, and he closed his eyes. A moment later, lips brushed his, and he lifted his lids to look into Léo’s beautiful dark eyes. Amusement shone there, but also love, and Ben forgot his embarrassment.

  “Welcome home, Bunny.”

LOUISA MASTERS started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was sneaking romance novels in and working out how to read them without being discovered. She’s spent most of her life feeling sorry for people who don’t read, convinced that books are the solution to every problem. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills. She spent years trying to build a “sensible” career, working in bookstores, recruitment, resource management, administration, and as a travel agent, before finally conceding defeat and devoting herself to the world of romance novels. Louisa has a long list of places first discovered in books that she wants to visit, and every so often she overcomes her loathing of jet lag and takes a trip that charges her imagination. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.
